Description
‘The loveliest castle in the world’. Guests now have the opportunity to stay overnight on the Leeds Castle estate just a short stroll from the magnificent castle.
This Norman castle was built in the 1120s and became a royal residence and home to six medieval queens, including Eleanor of Castile, the first wife of Edward I. In the Tudor period, Henry VIII developed the castle into a stunning Royal Palace. The castle then passed in private hands until in 1823 the now decaying Jacobean mansion was rebuilt in the Tudor style. During the 1930s further renovations took place as the new owner Lady Baillie decided to recreate a largely medieval castle, which is what we see today.
