NORTH NORFOLK AND THE COAST

The Coach House,   TATTERFORD HALL, Near FAKENHAM

Sleeps 2. With its sunny balcony overlooking landscaped gardens, this spacious and comfortably furnished first floor apartment enjoys use of an indoor heated swimming-pool and tennis court. Peacefully set, neighbouring the owners' home, it lies within easy reach of the north Norfolk coast, for superb walking and bird-watching. The market town of Fakenham (5 miles), with its 6th-century Saxon origins, offers an array of shops, inns, restaurants, and a colourful market every Thursday.

Barmstone Cottage,   BRANCASTER

Sleeps 4. This attractive cottage, dating from 1806, is just a mile from the sandy beach (ideal for dog walking), salt-marshes and golf course at Brancaster. The flint part of the property (the adjacent brick wing is sometimes occupied separately) is set on the main coastal road through Brancaster, which links all of North Norfolk's coastal villages. To the rear of the cottage is an enclosed, paved, south-facing garden with patio and pedestrian access leading to the village green. Village shop and inn within walking distance.

Owl Cottage,   STIFFKEY

Sleeps 4-6. This Grade II listed cottage is just off the coastal road at Stiffkey, and is the former home of Henry Williamson, author of Tarka the Otter. His `Owl' insignia, shown in his books, is visible on the wall of the cottage. The salt-marshes are approximately 4 minutes away, with the sea beyond, and Blakeney and Wells with their fishing, windsurfing and water-skiing pursuits are about 4 miles. The cottage is cosy and prettily furnished and at the rear is a high-walled courtyard with garden chairs and barbecue available.

Sleeps 6. Just 1½ miles from a sandy, pine-fringed beach, this beamed 17th-century listed cottage is set in the oldest part of this picturesque fishing port. With its own private parking and courtyard, it is cosy and comfortable with pretty period furnishings, and visitors can enjoy table tennis in the adjacent barn. Houghton Estate   Near KING'S LYNN

Sleeps up to 13. Houghton Hall in North Norfolk was built in the early 18th Century by Sir Robert Walpole, Britain's first Prime Minister, and has been the home of the Marquesses of Cholmondeley since 1797. The estate borders H.M. The Queen's Sandringham Estate. There are three cottages available within the grounds of this historic estate.

NORFOLK BROADS

Staithe Cottage,   BELAUGH, Near WROXHAM

Sleeps 2 - 3. This 18th-century detached cottage overlooks the staithe on the River Bure in the quiet hamlet of Belaugh. Very prettily furnished, it has a lawned garden, and is ideally positioned for fishing or simply watching the activity on this lovely stretch of the river (toddlers beware!). Boats may be hired among the bustling boatyards of Wroxham (1½ miles), with its fine Broad, shops, inns and restaurants. Norwich and the coast 10 miles.

Sleeps 4. Situated alongside the River Bure, this delightful detached, thatched, riverside property has its own mooring for guests' boat. Excellent river views, fishing available (in season), and nature reserve opposite. Wroxham, just a few minutes drive for riverside restaurants, cafes, shops and train station. River trips and daily boat hire available locally. Norfolk coastline, 12 miles and the city of Norwich, 8 miles. Golf and leisure centre, 5 miles. Shops and pubs 1/2 mile.

Sleeps 6. This pretty thatched cottage overlooks the quay on the River Yare, and lies at the heart of the charming Broadland village of Reedham. The end one of a row, it is within walking distance of the railway station, shops and two village inns - both serving good food.
