Not sure where to go? Here is our destination guide:
| REGION |
DESCRIPTION |
| Tuscany |
From the sandy beaches and islands of the
Tyrrhenian coast, go inland and discover the
forests and snowy peaks of the Apennine
mountains. Or visit the green, rolling hills of
the Chianti district and its world famous
vineyards. Renowned for
its history, art and architecture, Florence was
at the heart of the Renaissance movement and
boasts many of Italy's most important works of
art. A visit to Pisa, dating back to the 1st
century BC and home to the famous tower, is a
must, and don't miss Siena, reputed to be the
best-preserved medieval town in Italy. |
| Umbria |
Known as the 'green
heart' of Italy, Umbria is a rugged area,
untouched by the tide of tourism, with steep
hills plunging into deep valleys and
fast-flowing rivers. East of Umbria, the
Marches region stretches from the southern
Apennines to the glorious beaches of the
Adriatic. Perugia - the area's capital - should
be visited for its wealth of art, exquisite
architecture and Etruscan walls. |
| Amalfi Coast |
Often described as 'Europe's most beautiful
coastline' the region is dotted with picturesque
villages perched on steep, rocky cliffs that
plunge into the clear, azure waters of the
Mediterranean. Amalfi is surrounded by some of
the area's most spectacular scenery and from
here there are regular ferries to the isles of
Capri and Ischia. Bustling Naples is one of the
most historically significant cities in Italy. |
| Lazio |
Historic ruins, Renaissance squares, baroque
churches and, of course, the glory that is
historic Rome. Lazio is a fascinating patchwork
of mountains, plains, volcanic lakes, vineyards
and olive orchards. Set amongst these are
ancient towns such as Tivoli and Frascati, and
the port of Ostia Antica, home to some of the
best Roman remains in Italy. |
| Sicily |
Sicily has over 600 miles of breathtaking
coastline, with rocky cliffs to the north and
sandy beaches to the south. The rolling hills of
the interior are awash with wildflowers and
citrus trees. Visit Mount Etna, the tallest
active volcano in Europe, or the vibrant and
bustling Capo market in Palermo, the capital. |
| Italian Lakes |
Discover magical
Lake Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda against
the spectacular backdrop of the Alps. Wooded
hillsides tumble down towards the glistening
Lakes where picturesque villages nestle along
the waters edge. |
