An exclusive 31 bedroom luxury castle hotel.
Swinton Park is the ancestral home of the Cunliffe-Lister family and is set in 200 acres of parkland, lakes and gardens. The castle is surrounded by the family estate in which guests have access to rivers, reservoirs, moorland, dales and beautiful countryside bordering the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Swinton Park is a Grade II * listed building, the heart of which dates from the 1600’s with substantial alterations carried out during the 1700’s and 1800’s.
The approach to the castle past the gatehouse and up the sweeping drive through the deer park arrives at the portico where guests are met in the turret lobby.
The library (suitable for functions and weddings), the private sitting room and private dining room, the drawing room and the dining room are all south facing and overlook the lake and deer park. The morning room and lower hall overlook the gatehouse and converted Georgian stables.
There is a spa integral to the hotel with 7 treatment rooms and a pre-bookable relaxation area with cedar hot tub and sauna. There is also a bar (formally the family museum), play area and a snooker and games room for the guests enjoyment and relaxation. Many activities are available at the hotel including clay pigeon shooting, trout and course fishing, horse riding, Bird of Prey Centre, golf, mountain and off-road cycling.
Stephen Bulmer joined Swinton Park Cookery School in 2013 as Chef Director with over 30 years’ experience at Michelin level restaurants throughout Europe and having been Chef Director at the Raymond Blanc Cookery School for 10 years and ran his own Cookery School at Brook Hall in Buckinghamshire. Half, one and two-day courses are run throughout the year, covering a wide range of themes and cuisines, together with Chef’s Table demonstration dining. Courses are also run at half terms and in school holidays for children and teenagers.
The bedrooms, on first and second floors, are individually designed and decorated on the theme of a Yorkshire town, dale, castle, abbey or garden, according to the aspect of the room. For example, the Harrogate room faces south across the lake and deer park whilst the Richmond room faces east overlooking the gatehouse and driveway.
Six of the bedrooms are suites and the turret room is on three floors with a (steep!) staircase between. A lift serves both first and second floors. The Family Suite, Semerwater, offers an Earl’s category room with adjoining twin/double with a shower room.
