Dumbarton Rock was a mighty fortress in the Dark Ages, indeed the castle’s recorded history goes back some 1500 years. Dumbarton was the capital of a kingdom that covered the area now known as Strathclyde and the rock was besieged several times by Viking raiders. The medieval castle dates from 1220.
This weekend visit the large Viking living history camp and discover how the Vikings lived in the period 970 to 1263. Learn about their weapons and see Viking battles, archery and much, much more.
