Chalke Valley History Festival

Time Period: Multiperiod

Performer / Organiser: Chalke Valley History Festival

20th to 26th June 2022 at Church Bottom, Bury Lane, Broad Chalke, Near Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP5 5DP

Discover life in an Iron Age round house and settlement – built specifically for this year’s festival and using the very tools and materials that would have been employed by those in Britain before the Roman invasion.

Living history spanning two millennia will include a Saxon camp, Medieval encampment, a Civil War marching camp, Ragged Victorians and a Second World War camp of US Armored Engineers. The history of siege warfare from the Romans to the Civil War will showcase an array of weapons and monstrously big cannons. We will also recreate exactly how it was that King Richard III was killed at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.

To mark the return of the monarchy and King Charles II in 1660, there will also be Restoration-era horse racing. Discover the role of women during the Second World War.

Enjoy historic fast food and street food, including food that would have been familiar to those living in Pompeii in the 1st Century.
