Bracken House, situated on the periphery of
Exmoor in Bratton Fleming, seven miles east-north-east of
Barnstaple, was recently graded a 5-star guest accommodation by
VisitBritain.
Formerly a rectory, Bracken House has been converted into a
small hotel without losing the general ambiance of a country
house. It is delightfully situated in its own little world of
eight peaceful acres, with streams and ponds.
The garden attracts lots of birds including
regular nuthatches, housemartins, ravens, occasional
woodpeckers, buzzards circling overhead, and elusive wild tawny
owls. It is also home to our resident injured owls. Grey
wagtails frequent the pond with mallards and moorhens breed, and
early risers may catch a heron or kingfisher.
Located at 750 feet above sea level, there
are magnificent views over rolling hills and wooded combes to
the Taw Estuary and Hartland Point in the far distance.
