Carriden House is a
family run, 3-star guest house. The house lies in a
quiet rural location overlooking the River Forth,
only 25 minutes from Edinburgh and close to main
road and rail links. The house lies within 5 acres
of gardens, with over 20 acres of mature woodland
and ample free parking.
Guests can unwind in
the tranquil drawing room and relax beside the
open log fire.
Carriden House is
classified as a Category A listed building by
Historic Scotland. The oldest part of the house
which still stands is the eastern tower and was
built by John Hamilton of Letterick in 1602.
Accommodation.
Five en-suite bedrooms available
throughout the year. All have en-suite
bath/shower, TV, fridge, tea/coffee making
facilities, radio alarm, hairdryer, electric
shaver point, heaters and extra blankets. Cots and
highchairs are available on request. For your
convenience laundry facilities are available with
irons and a trouser press available on request.
For the comfort and
safety of our guests, all of the bedrooms are
strictly non-smoking.
Breakfast.
Breakfast is
served in our Morning Room. A buffet of cereals,
fresh fruit and yoghurts is offered to start with,
and is followed by a traditional Scottish
Breakfast (your selection from bacon, pork or
vegetarian sausages, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms)
served to your table. We are happy to cater for
special diets if required.
At Carriden House
we are keen to support local farmers and use
locally grown produce whenever possible. Our jams
are homemade and we also make our own honey from
our apiary in the garden. Carriden honey and
beeswax furniture polish are available for our
guests to purchase.
Grounds. Carriden
House has a large garden where you can sit and
relax in the peaceful surroundings. We have an
outdoor play area with trampoline, slide and
swings which guests are welcome to use (for safety
we recommend that children are supervised at all
times). If you are feeling more energetic you can
explore the 20 acres of mature woodland that
surround Carriden House and walk down to the River
Forth which takes just 5 minutes.
Weddings.
Holding wedding ceremonies and receptions in a
historic castle or country house is becoming
increasingly popular. We are delighted to help
those who would like to celebrate their special
occasion in the peaceful setting of Carriden
House.
Carriden House is,
we think, a stunning setting for a wedding. If you
would like to have your wedding at Carriden House,
we will do our best to meet your requirements,
whatever they may be.
You can either make
all catering arrangements yourself, or we can
usually suggest local companies who can cater for
anything from a light snack to a full banquet. For
a sit-down meal, the Morning Room can very
comfortably accommodate 30, or the Drawing Room
50. During the summer, you could have a marquee on
the lawn. |
