Newbiggin
Hall was built originally as a pele tower in 1304; a place of refuge
from Scottish raiders and feuding border families, providing shelter
for both humans and animals. Subsequent re-building and
additions in the 17th and 18th centuries have created a handsome
country house set in its own beautiful grounds of approximately
three acres with extensive lawns, flower borders and a woodland
area. It is a listed building( Grade II*). Newbiggin
is 4 miles from Carlisle, renowned for its Cathedral and Castle and
award winning Tullie House Museum. Here you will find shops
and services and leisure facilities. Located just one mile from
Junction 42 of the M6. Ideal centre for touring Hadrian's Wall, Lake
District, Border Country, Solway Coast. Nearest
shops are 2 miles away. Nearby there are several country inns
serving meals.
Newbiggin
Hall is a non-smoking establishment.
