Muncaster Castle, home
to the Pennington family for 800 years, is a
genuine treasure trove of art and antiques. Its
Great Hall, Octagonal Library and elegant Dining
Room are all windows on a grand past. But
Muncaster's wild history reveals a flipside to
life in a stately home. The castle evolved from a Pele Tower, built to repel marauding Scots.
Between the Irish Sea and
Hardknott Pass,
Muncaster is located in one of Europe's most
remote and dramatic landscapes, beneath the
grandeur of Scafell Pike, England's tallest peak.
Weddings.
Muncaster makes a perfect setting for weddings,
dinner parties or other special occasions.
The
Castle is licensed for civil ceremonies and partnerships
and is also
ideal as a venue for receptions following a church
wedding (Muncaster
Church is in the gardens).

Evening parties can be hosted in the Old Laundry
function room, a short distance from the castle.
This room, complete with the Fool's Paradise bar,
can be hired independently of the castle and is
also an excellent venue for conferences or
meetings.
The Great Hall, dating from the medieval age at the heart of the castle can
accommodate up to 100 guests, whilst other rooms
within the castle can provide a more
intimate setting for a smaller wedding ceremony or
wedding breakfast.
The castle front lawn is a
perfect location for wedding photographs.
The Pennington family is happy for
wedding parties to use this exclusive area. In
fine weather, drinks may be served on the lawn.
Corporate Hospitality.
Corporate events can be given that extra edge
as your guests soak up the atmosphere of Muncaster.
Our conference facilities can accommodate from 10
to 100 delegates, with larger groups of up 150
being hosted in the magnificent surroundings of a
marquee on the front lawn of the Castle.
Other conference facilities include OHP with
laptop, interactive whiteboard, induction loop and
radio microphone system.
Private Parties.
Muncaster Castle can
also provide the perfect venue for private,
family and group entertaining. Family events can
be celebrated in the splendour of either of the
two dining rooms, or for larger numbers the Great
Hall can be used for fork suppers or drinks
receptions.
Accommodation.
10 comfortable,
cosy rooms in Muncaster's gardens near the Castle
provide bed and breakfast or self catering
accommodation for up to 29 guests. Muncaster can
also provide 2 secluded holiday cottages, sleeping
up to 20 people, and the 20 bedroom newly
refurbished Pennington Hotel in the nearby village
of Ravenglass.
Whatever the event, Muncaster can offer a beautiful
venue, with stunning gardens and grounds for you
and your guests to enjoy. Gleaming family silver,
snowy white linen (some that dates from the
1800's) grace the antique walnut table, and with
fresh flowers and views of the Eskdale fells, you
too can step onto the edge of paradise. We look
forward to meeting you.
