Situated
at the foot of rural Weardale and surrounded by fields and
woodlands, The Greenhead Hotel is located just 500 yards off the
main A68 at Fir Tree, and only twenty minutes drive from
historic cathedral city, Durham. Built in 1704 and utilised as the local Blacksmiths’
workshop, it has been
occupied by the present owners since 1974, and was developed
in 1987 to provide private residential en-suite
accommodation for a dozen guests
The Hotel is complimented
by the fact that only private residential guests are catered
for (no public bars or discos). All rooms are thoughtfully equipped with
colour television, tea & coffee making facilities, and
radio alarm clock. The peach Four-Poster bridal suite is
ideal for an anniversary or for those wanting a quiet break
from routine. There
are four other double rooms (en-suite). Two are adjacent
with private landing and rustic spiral staircase. There are also two
twin rooms (en-suite), one on
the ground floor with a patio overlooking the gardens.
A
50 foot beamed and stone arched lounge, complete with fully
licensed bar, is the ideal focal point of relaxed evenings
where guests can listen to music, watch television or simply
plan the next day’s events from the ample tourist
literature provided.
