The Grim's Dyke Hotel
is a carefully restored country house set in over 40 acres of
beautiful gardens and woodlands. A world away from the tumult that
is London, yet only twelve miles from the bright lights of the West
End, and just eight miles from Heathrow airport. The hotel is easily
accessible as it is situated close to junction 5 of the M1.
This magnificent
Victorian building is the former residence of Sir William Gilbert,
the writing half of the Gilbert & Sullivan partnership. The beauty
of this historic country house against the backdrop of the luxuriant
and peaceful gardens and woodlands that surround it create an oasis.
This beautiful hotel
is the ideal place for a relaxing and peaceful stay for
holidaymakers and business travellers alike. Old-fashioned values
combine with modern day comforts - comfortable beds, well-appointed
en-suite bathrooms and rooms which are individually designed in the
country house style, all with magnificent views over the surrounding
parkland. Of the 46 bedrooms at Grim's Dyke nine luxurious rooms and
suites can be found in the main house and a further 37 high quality
rooms are housed in a separate lodge, two of which have facilities
for the disabled. The lodge is merely yards from the entrance to the
main house and offers the same sense of peace and tranquillity as it
is surrounded by trees and overlooks the gardens. Facilities include
Multi-Satellite TV channels, Business Services include Direct-Dial
telephones, Typing, Copying and Faxing service. Period rooms also
include Personal Laundry Service, 24 hour Room Service and Fruit
Basket.
Gilbert's Restaurant
is set in one of the most impressive rooms of the house, with it's
elegant decor, flamboyant stone carvings and fabulous inglenook
fireplace. Here you can enjoy tranquil views of the gardens whilst
enjoying the delectable AA Rosette-recommended fare, served up by
our award-winning chefs. Our exciting yet traditional menu offers
something for everyone with vegetarian options always available and
Gilbert's are pleased to cater for those guests requiring special
diets. At weekends soft piano music in the background adds to the
ambience, while you enjoy your meal and your company.
Through the great
panelled doors off the grand entrance hall you'll find the Library
Bar. This was the library where Gilbert wrote some of his most well
known works, and also where he created his last two operettas in
collaboration with Sullivan. A huge fireplace once stood in place of
the bar, which still features the copper surround Gilbert had
installed. This peaceful room looks out onto the croquet lawn,
terrace and gardens.
Surrounding Grim's
Dyke Hotel is one of its most spectacular features, the grounds, an
enchanting mix of wild woodland and formal gardens. Close by you
will find a croquet lawn along with the kitchen gardens, beehives
and Victorian greenhouses that supply the restaurant. If you venture
further into the woods you can find the famous boating lake, fringed
with azaleas that tumble gently to the water's edge, complete with a
central island.
