BOATING HOLIDAYS: THE NORFOLK BROADS
THE
NORFOLK BROADS

Discover the unrivalled
beauty of the Norfolk Broads in comfort and at a
leisurely pace on a boating holiday.
With 125 miles of Britain's
finest sailing ahead of you, the Norfolk Broads give you
the chance to escape to an expansive area that seems a
world apart from most of the British mainland. The
Broads offer a wealth of scenery including the wide
horizons and open skies of the floodplains, tranquil
marshlands where the reeds are teeming with wildlife,
leafy edged villages and picturesque market towns, and
the impressive skyline of Norwich with its magnificent
cathedral.
Southern Broads: Beccles and Oulton Broad.
Beccles lies on the River Waveney and is a pretty town
with streets of Georgian houses, shopping, inns and
restaurants. Short cruises from here to Outlon Broad or
longer cruises to Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
Western Broads:
Brundall. Brundall is on
the northern banks of the River Yar, an ideal starting
point for longer cruises to Oulton Broad, Wroxham and
Acle as well as shorter cruises to Norwich where you can
moor by the magnificent cathedral or via the River Chet
to Loddon, a pretty market town.
Heart of the Norfolk Broads: Acle.
Lying in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, the pretty
market town of Acle is the ideal starting point. To the
south lies Breydon Water, haunt of waterfowl and
seabirds, with the seaside resort of Great Yarmouth at
its northern end. Passing Surlingham Marsh Nature
Reserve and some of Norfolk's finest riverside pubs, a
cruise of about 8 hours brings you to the heart of
Norwich city. To the north is Wroxham, capital of the
Norfolk Broads. And on the River Thurne, you'll find
Potter Heigham whose picturesque, 13th century low
bridge arch leads to Hickling Broad.
Northern Broads: Hickling and Stalham.
Hickling Broad is the largest of the northern broads and
an important National Nature Reserve. As well as
extensive cruising all over the Norfolk Broads, from
this peaceful base you can head south to Potter Heigham,
moor at St Benet's Abbey to explore the ruins, and then
go on to the pretty thatched village of Ludham and
Barton Broad – a popular venue for regattas – finishing
at the country town of Stalham on the River Ant.
Wroxham and Horning.
Wroxham is known as the
'capital' of the Norfolk Broads and is set on one of its
prettiest rivers. Lying just to the north is Coltishall
and to the south are the open waters of Wroxham Broad
and lovely Salhouse Broad. Further south lie Ranworth
Broad and the village of Horning whose thatched
boathouses and traditional inns make it one of the
prettiest spots in the Norfolk Broads.
