Walworth Castle Hotel
Walworth, Darlington, Co Durham, DL2 2LY (view map)
Welcome to Walworth Castle, parts of which date back to the 12th century. One of England’s few genuine castle hotels, Walworth boasts many original features, including a dungeon!
The castle was built in 1150 by the Hansard family and, apart from a short period following the Black Death, remained in the family for around 500 years. The castle played host to King James VI of Scotland in 1603 as he travelled south to London for his coronation as King James I of England.
The castle is set in an 18 acre estate, just 3 miles from junction 58 of the A1(M), perfect for visiting Darlington, Richmond, Durham and the North Yorks Moors.
Walworth Castle Hotel is the perfect place for a relaxing stay. Our “Fit for a King” suites feature castle towers and spa baths, and some of the bedrooms boast romantic four poster beds. Sample award winning cuisine in Hansard’s Restaurant or enjoy a carvery meal in the less formal Farmer’s Bar.
