 HOLMHEAD GUEST HOUSE
is situated on Hadrian's Wall and has
arranged special
weekends for visitors to get the mostout
of their visit to Hadrian’s
Wall World Heritage site.
Guests
are asked to arrive on Friday evening
before 1800h. The
evening starts with a short video about the Wall. A
dinner party with a
Roman flavour follows at 1930h and
later a colour slide/talk.
On
Saturday
at 1000am a Roman Soldier will call !! To
demonstrate life in the army, uniforms, off duty wear, and weapons.
Then at
1130h a visit to the nearby Roman Army Museum is followed
by packed lunch at the museum.
At
1330h 2 walks are suggested to
suit guests:
(1)
West along the route to Brampton with interesting remains of 4
turrets and a signal tower. 9 miles .
(2)
Circular walk outside of the Roman Empire through the wall and over
the spectacular Whinsill ridge. 4 miles.
Archaeological
explanations, maps, bus times, provided.

On
Sunday a visit is arranged to Vindolanda with a guided tour around the excavations (new dig for 2002 starts in April) and a
chat to the archaeologists presently working on the site, a visit to
the
museum and replicas. Shop
and café. Packed lunch here. Depart after lunch.
